The Tea Cosy

3 George Street

Looking for a Royalty-free zone? Then avoid this quirky, Windsor memorabilia-stuffed tea room. No don’t. We’d recommend even diehard Republicans to give it a go, come what may; what’s on offer on the plate and in the cup is so good. OK, the dishes are all themed around members of the Royal Family, so you can order a Charles and Camilla (two pieces of toast with pate or home-made jam) or, moving on a generation, the more lavish William and Kate Selection, which offers you a selection of smoked salmon, coronation chicken and cucumber finger sandwiches, a scone with cream and jam, a slice of cake and a pot of tea with free refill. All this can be consumed under the watchful presence of the Royals themselves in a thousand kitsch manifestations – miniature Union Jacks, commemorative crockery and Charles and Di tea cloths. There are even nanny-like house rules such as “When stirring your tea, kindly refrain from clinking the sides of your cup”. The formula has earned the Tea Cosy numerous UK Best Tea Room nominations and past customers have included  EastEnders stars June Brown and Michelle Collins and former Deputy PM John Prescott.
