This beautifully revamped boozer is on of the most enticing North Laine destinations, both for its cosy interior and heated back garden and, unusually for a pub, there is street food of an evening and an imaginative exclusively veggie menu. Add an array of Sussex cask ales and global craft beers. So grab a pint and a place at one of the large wooden tables and enjoy mains such as Sweet Potato, Peanut, Lime and Coriander Wellington (£9.50) or from the Sunday ‘street menu’ Ginger Beer Battered Halloumi Bites with tartare sauce (small/large £5.50/£8.50) Jalapenos Stuffed with Cream Cheese, breaded and fried, Rocket, Harissa and Sour Cream (£5.50/£8.50) or Panelle (Sicilian chickpea fritters) with tomato sauce for £5.50. We liked on the Christmas menu (a bargain at three courses for £19) a dessert of Coconut, Chocolate and Ginger, Strawberry Vegan Ice Cream Sundae. There’s even a £4.95 veggie kids’ menu. Like the Hanover and The Queens Head, it’s part of the Indigo pub chain.
