A seafront setting with a view of the old West Pier and a deliberate Big Apple vibe invariably tempt you into ordering from the cutting edge cocktail list before tucking into this classy all-day diner’s take on The Dirty Burger (£8.50). New Club’s own fabulously fluffy brioche buns host hickory onion and bacon relish, sliced pickles, Monterey Jack cheese, house sauce, romaine lettuce and shredded cabbage (alternatively The Clean Burger toppings are just gherkin and salad). And the beef? 35 day aged Black Angus and Longhorn rump, chuck and marrow. Sourced from the Sussex Organic Meat Company but all very Texas BBQ well-executed. Breakfast is more NYC, but even here there’s a Breakfast burger (£7), consisting of pork patty, fried egg, American cheese and hangover cure dressing. Hangover cure? Perhaps one too many Cosmos and Pink Ladies with your dinner burger the night before?
