The Mesmerist

1-3 Prince Albert Street

TOB is a sucker for a dash of Thirties retro chic and few places pull if off with quite the elan of The Mesmerist, which melds gin palace chic, burlesque and an amazing Sunday roast in one vibrant package. The live music offering is a thing of rare beauty – expect anything from a rip-roaring big band with their own swing dancers to a foot stomping one-man blues extravaganza. Friday is Shake Holla and Roll, Saturday is Juke Joint Jamboree, Tuesday Bang Bang Boogaloo, Wednesday is The Swing Ninjas... and in their own words: “Our famous midnight show on Saturday night never ceases to amaze. Each act is a surprise; watch out for the smoke and the chiming bells.” The look of the place is a perfect match for such ambitions – from vintage furniture to a black and white photo booth; from a giant papier maché octopus behind the downstairs bar to a general vibe that one punter dubbed ‘Sherlock chic’. This is a great place to hang out. Cocktails are classic with maverick moments. Check out the infamous Amaretto Cherry Sour.
