But a major reason for popping in is the equally revitalised food offering with special attention paid to trusted suppliers. Fish comes from their fishmonger in Shoreham five miles away, who brings in a daily cathc. Meat is free range and from British farms, local when possible. The Nelson’s bread is baked daily by The Real Patisserie, artisan suppliers just a few yards from the pub. Burgers are a big draw, but vegan, veggie and gluten-free diets are all catered for, too. Cask ales come from Harveys of Lewe’s, including seasonal specials. Look no further, though, then Harvey’s Sussex Best Bitter – a perennial classic. The beer is used in the batter for the pub’s own Fish and Chips.
