The name signals this admirable pub in the heart of Hove is proud of its food’s provenance, confirmed by the acknowledgements on the website. The Foragers’ 100 per cent organic and free range meat is produced by the terrific Clayton Farm at Mayfield, while South Brockwells Farm in Uckfield supplies their game for the a la carte and their specialist game dinners. All fish served is caught by sustainable methods off the Sussex coast, veg is local and organic, cheeses are, too, whenever possible – and yes, they make use of seasonable wild foraged greens and herbs. Harvey’s Sussex Bitter and organic wines, naturally. Their two courses for £15 deal (now until 7pm, Fridays, too) is excellent value from a menu that consistently offers value and vivid, uncomplicated dishes.
