The organic-leaningEarth and Stars serves its Sunday roast throughout the day. Like the pub itself, the offering is attractive but a mite leftfield – choose perhaps between Slow Roasted Pork Belly, 24 Hour Marinated Lamb or Honey and Chilli Glazed chicken. Each comes with seven different vegetables on the plate – perhaps cajun spiced squash, cheesy leeks or crunchy red cabbage – and, of course since this is an organic, sustainable hostelry, veggies don’t get short shrift. All this is served on hulking wooden tables and you may have to shift along – this centrally placed pub gets very busy. We’d heartily recommend the slow-braised Free Range Sussex Pork Belly (£11.95) with superb strips of crunchy crackling.
