Riddle and Finn’s is a classic champagne and oyster bar with a stylish setting on the fringe of The Lanes. If your budget doesn’t run to £250 for a bottle of Louis Roederer Cristal 2006 we suggest you settle for the local Court Garden Sussex sparkler made with a classic Champagne grape blend and method. It’s crisp and toasty – £8 a glass, £40 a bottle – and is a classy match for the oysters with their various toppings. Who’s for smoked salmon and sea urchin butter or pickled ginger with soy and spring onion? Otherwise stick to a generously filled fish pie, whole crabs or the catch of the day, spanking fresh from the fish market at Hove Lagoon. Riddle and Finn’s second outlet on the beach (139 Kings Road Arches, BN1 2FN) doesn’t have the same decadent feel, but at least you can book, unlike at the Meeting House Lane mothership.
