Certainly Brighton’s most charming Indian restaurant, serving up some sublime vegetarian and vegan food and, as you’d imagine, the thrills start with the snackier items earlier in the menu. Sample the deep-fried Ketchoris, stuffed with coconut and peas and the Dahi Bhel Puri (crushed papadums, salad tomato, onion and mint crispy noodles, tamarind sauce, and piles of fresh coriander). They could be straight of Chowdhury Beach, Mumbai. Except you almost feel like you are in the owners’ living room, saris tenting the ceiling, family snaps on the walls. Water is served in recycled juice bottles but we’d be tempted to order one of the citrussy, hoppy craft beers on offer. It won’t handle the dry heat of signature Black Chick Pea Curry, but what the heck. Soothe your throat with one of the lovely house dals or the Spinach and Paneer Curry, all eminently affordable. Rice is just £1.77 extra and all portions are huge. Do be aware, though, that you might miss out on all these delights described by the owners as “authentic homemade Indian food by authentic homemade Indians” if you don’t check out Planet’s eccentric opening hours – generally 6pm-10pm
