The music is invariably acoustic down in the basement of Kemp Town’s Brooklyn-inspired dive bar and diner. The interior inevitably is retro chic, allied to industrial fittings and salvaged wood. Neighbourhood’s owner, local legend Ben ‘Ocean Rooms’ Gill wanted “to create an individual, independent bar that is a far cry from the homogenised chains that are taking over city centres throughout the UK”. OK, it’s all a bit Route 66 paraphernalia, street art and screenprints, burger buns and chilli cheese fries, but it somehow works and their 100 ft garden with its multi-coloured furniture and BBQ is a road trip in itself. An instant Kemp Town classic.
