Dine in the cosy back room or in the faded elegance of the upstairs Regency Restaurant of this three-storey, warrenlike boozer tucked away behind Regency Square. There’s an odd mixture of Irish and camp about the place, fuelled by some wonderful beers. Actor Gary ‘The Bill’ Whelan recently sold this 19th century survivor to a Chelsea-based pub group for £4.5 million, a record pub price for Brighton. They have promised to not change the ‘formula’. Let’s hope that applies to the amazing value Sunday roasts, encompassing beef, chicken, lamb and belly pork (even a nut roast), all at under a tenner. For a small addition, you can go half and half and for an extra 75p tag on a side of cauliflower cheese. If it’s one of those Sundays, treat yourself first to a pint of Bloody Mary for £5.95.
