This pub’s Italianate garden and terrace perfect for al fresco dining are the immediate attraction, but the trad Sunday roasts head chef Phil Bartley serves up are also a thing of beauty. No thin slices of beef here. Expect a large chunk of beef and a similarly breathtaking, fluffsome, herby Yorkshire pud. Veg includes creamed leeks and tart red cabbage as well as a phalanx of roasties. Ask for extra gravy – another star turn. Alternatively you can order Saddle of Lamb, Organic Roast Chicken or Slow Roasted Pork Belly, all locally sourced from across Sussex. All roasts are served up until 8pm every Sunday, with good vegetarian options, at this Hove hideaway operated by the Golden Lion Group.
