Gourmet Girls Pop-Up Restaurant

135a Islingword Road

This informal vegan gathering kicking off the weekend is a guarantee of high quality, ethically sourced ingredients. Plant-based gourmet cuisine is the forte of Paula Young and Sammy Gill, experienced chefs who work together as Titbits Catering. Paula started at Terre a Terre before travelling to Australia and Asia, hence the fusion influences on her food. More recently she was head chef at Lancrigg Country House Hotel in Grasmere, where she helped develop The Green Valley Organic Restaurant, the UK's first certified organic vegetarian eaterie. It was there she met Sammy, whose background has been in big community projects. At the pop-up in Fanny’s lovely deli the seating is spread across two floors and each week’s menu takes on a different theme – from Spanish to Thai, North African to Japanese, but their 2014 Christmas menu showed how delicious their food can be without straying too far from home – Jerusalem Artichoke and Roast Garlic Soup with Pine Nut Truffle Cream and Fresh Herbed Croutons; Brazil Nut Wellington with Kentish roast potatoes, roasted beetroot and maple carrots, sage and onion dumpling, cranberry relish and red wine gravy; Chestnut Mousse Cake with Chocolate Ganache. Titbits (www.titbitscatering.co.uk, 07789 963710) also offer cookery courses and pop-up home catering.
