Much was made initially of X Factor frontman Dermot O’Leary’s involvement in Fishy Fishy – especially when its sibling in Poole went fins up, but five years on the Brighton version has settled own nicely in its mission to promote fresh, local and seasonal seafood in the quirky setting of a Georgian townhouse on the edge of The Lanes. Locally sourced, seasonal fish for soup and market specials hits the mark at agreeable prices (though the house fish and chips will set you back £11). TOB would suggest you crack into a whole Channel crab for £19.50, served with a Marie Rose sauce and garlic mayonnaise or, push the boat out and go for a cold seafood platter at £45. The all-day eaterie has even spawned a cookbook, co-written by Paul Shovlin, O’Leary’s business partner. The Fishy Fishy Cookbook is published by New Holland Publishers Ltd and costs £16.99.
